My Story

Michael A. Williams is the retired Special Agent in Charge of the U. S. Secret Service - Birmingham Field Office. He officially retired on June 30, 2019. His career with the Secret Service spanned more than thirty-three (33) years and he served six (6) presidents.

 

In 1985, he began his career in federal law enforcement as a Secret Service officer assigned to the White House. In 1988, he was selected as a special agent and received his field experience in the Miami (FL) Field Office. While assigned to the Miami Field Office, he received numerous awards for investigative excellence to include the Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.

 

In 1996, he was assigned to the Presidential Protective Division where he protected Presidents William J. Clinton and George W. Bush.

 

In 2001, he was promoted to a Supervisory Special Agent and quickly rose through the ranks to become the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division and the Special Agent in Charge of the Columbia (SC) Field Office.

 

In January 2013, he was promoted into the Senior Executive Service in Washington, DC where he served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Protective Intelligence and Assessment Division. In 2015, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Assistant Director in the Office of Protective Operations. In this capacity, he ensured the President, the First Lady and all protected persons, places and events received the highest level of security based on threats and vulnerabilities.

 

Michael is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling. In 2004, he received UAB’s Outstanding Alumni Award. He is married to Angela Bryant-Williams, and they have a twenty-eight  (28) year old son named Bryant.

 

In retirement, Michael has dedicated his time and energy to giving back to the Birmingham community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, the Birmingham Police Foundation, and Make-A-Wish of Alabama. In addition to his board work, he is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
